We Could Use Your Help For A Local Project

Have you seen the New Kindness Movement?

Are You Happy Being Alone?

This is my new home in Oregon…

We could use your help in this project in Elk Grove!

I received the following letter from an old friend of mine who could use your help in restoring an old local dairy in Elk Grove. Her contact information is on the bottom of the page…thanks! Jen~

What’s ‘new’ is that I have become very involved in helping to restore the Nicholaus Dairy here in Elk Grove. For more info, please go to  ProjectAWE.net  It is on Regional San’s buffer lands area and was scheduled to be bulldozed, until someone decided to look into the history of the farm.  They discovered that the Senior Nicholaus was responsible for major innovations in the Dairy / food industry and contacted the State & Federal Historic Societies with the result that the Dairy is on both Registers and grants were given to preserve it.

I am having “the fun of the hunt” for items from the late 1800s thru the 1950s to put in the restored milk barn, workshop, pig & chicken coops and of course, the house.  The goal is to restore it to the 1040-50 looks for the museum.  The Elk Grove school district is writing curricula for the 1st  thru 6th grade and will have classes on all aspects of farming and food production.  There are over 30 organizations involved and plans are underway for classes in everything from the Master Gardeners and the Future Farmers, to the UC Davis Raptor Rehabilitation program… for kids thru adult interests.  The hope is that it will become a “destination location” in the future… and even may be rented for Weddings, Parties, etc.

SO…the big question: Do you have contacts who might donate (for a tax write off) old items for the museum?  We are looking for all kinds of dairy related items (milk cans, etc) farm tools / equipment (donated or on loan to the museum) House hold goods, etc  (Old kitchen tools, sewing, knitting, etc. stuff) The remaining members of the family are involved and still had some of the old furniture to contribute and pictures of things, too.

Let me know if you have any good ‘leads’… LOL

Take care, and enjoy you new world!
Blessings!
Carmen
