Mid century, mid century, mid century this week especially at our 46th street sale. Also plenty of jewelry for all! This is a very fun and colorful household and there is something for each and every one of you believe it!

Bring boxes if you have them as this house is just packed with sewing, crafts and collectibles.

Margy and Millie were two sisters of a family of 7 children, all born in California. They lived

together in Margy’s house on 46th Street since the mid 1980’s. They were known to everyone as

the “M & M Sisters”. They visited Neptune’s Table in South Land Park regularly on Tuesday

and Friday evenings for dinner and cocktails until it closed. They then established their regular

seats at the bar at Brownie’s Lounge across the parking lot from Neptune’s. They were both

excellent seamstresses and made everything from Humpty Dumpty dolls to elves to fancy vests to

potholders for their friends – and would never accept money for their efforts – but you might buy

them a drink.

They also delivered bags of homemade dolls to local police and fire stations and hospitals to give

out to children in distress.

They were always young at heart and loads of fun. Millie’s granddaughter tells of being taught to

burp appropriately loudly at the dinner table, much to her mother’s horror.

Margy passed away peacefully on July 18 and Millie went to live at a nice senior residential

home so their home and all of their treasures are available, including mountains of sewing items –

patterns, some of which are no longer available, lots of fabric, and several sewing machines.

(They always had to have a backup machine or two.)

Here is a short bio shared with us by the family. Enjoy!

My parents, Russ and Edna, moved here with their three kids in 1969, after my Dad retired from the Air Force.  They were the original owners of the house.  The contents have been collected over the years by my parents, both from their days in the Air Force and also from their  post-retirement travels around the country with their trailer. My dad spent time in Europe in WWII, as a bombardier on B24, and also had tours in Thailand and Guam during the Vietnam War.  Many of the items came from those countries;  it was always “Christmas” when my dad returned home with a duffel bag full of treasures.  Some of the antiques were bought in South Dakota and Indiana- my parents loved to go to estate sales and it is fitting that their treasures are now being offered up in their own estate sale.
Our family spent a lot of time in the outdoors;  camping and fishing.  If you notice the rock work in the back yard, all of those stones were collected by us during trips to the rivers and lakes around here.  My dad fashioned them into walkways and a fish pond;  he was happiest when he was making things.

We had many a family party in this back yard and lots of family dinners in my mom’s “Danish Modern” dining room.
