Laura Isabel Howard
Laura was born on May 29, 1939. She was raised on a ranch in Capay Valley and attended Esparto High School. Once graduating from high school, Laura moved to Sacramento where she attended Sacramento City College while living with friends of the family. Laura continued her education graduating from Sacramento State University with a degree in Mathematics.
After graduation, Laura took her degree and went to work for Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley. After a short period of time, Laura became a Master Mathematician at Ames. Her greatest accomplishment was working as the Lead Mathematician for the Space Shuttle in the wind tunnel at Ames. Laura traveled from Silicon Valley to Houston to Florida as testing was done on the shuttle based on the wind tunnel development.
Laura was never married and spent her time traveling around the country to places of her interest. This included all the national landmarks. Laura was an avid photographer and took many photos of her adventures. Laura was considered brilliant and eccentric and her collection of personal possessions reflect this fact.
Unfortunately, as is the case with many brilliant people, Laura’s life has been taken over by Alzheimers. The family is trying to provide the best Alzheimer’s care possible and therefore has provided the public with the opportunity to purchase her possessions.
All the proceeds will help provide special care for a special person who had a hand in history with the Space Shuttle.
