Ellis and Jan moved into their home on Cliffwood Way in 1967. Their eight-year old son Eric was raised in the house just around the corner from Bancroft Elementary where he attended grade school.
The young couple married in the community of Central Valley in Shasta County in 1955. Ellis was raised in cowboy country in Wyoming and Montana before joining the Navy during the Korean War. Jan spent her formative years in and around Central Valley.
They eventually found themselves in San Luis Obispo where Ellis studied at California Polytechnic and Jan gave birth to their only child. Ellis worked in the aerospace industry during these early years as a mechanic on the early Gemini and Atlas missile projects. Jan was a proud homemaker and loving mother.
Ellis worked for the County of Sacramento. During the years before he retired in 1998 he rose from Stationary Engineer-I to the position of Deputy Director of General Services. From the khaki uniform of the night shift in the basement of the old County Courthouse to the suit and tie in a corner office on Ramos Circle, Ellis attired himself in a manner befitting his varied roles with the County. He was a motivated self-educated gentleman known as ‘the good guy in the white cowboy hat.’ He was also a consummate role-model for his son and colleagues.
Jan very much enjoyed her role as the quintessential 50’s housewife. She did venture into the bar-tending vocation for a short time, serving customers and managing the banks at Mills Station. Most importantly, she provided a foundation of love for her little family.
Jan and Ellis are gone now, but they will never be forgotten by their beloved family. The lives they lived and the lessons they provided will endure for generations.
Lovingly shared by the family for you to enjoy~
